Top 6 Evil Witches

Ursula's Spell

6. Ursula The Sea Witch"The Little Mermaid"

Ursula the Sea Witch is a fictional character and the main antagonist from Walt Disney Pictures' 28th animated film The Little Mermaid (1989). She is voiced by Pat Carroll, who also provides her vocals for all the canonical animated media. Ursula is based on the "Sea witch/sorceress" character in Hans Christian Andersen's story "The Little Mermaid". In the original story the sea witch is a neutral enabler, but for Disney's adaptation, the character was modified into a full-fledged antagonist and plays a larger role in the overall story.

Maleficent's Spell

5. Maleficent - "Sleeping Beauty"

Maleficent is the antagonist of Walt Disney's 1959 film Sleeping Beauty. She is characterized as the "Mistress of All Evil" who, after not being invited to a christening, curses the infant Princess Aurora to "prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die" before the sun sets on her sixteenth birthday. She was voiced by Eleanor Audley, who earlier voiced Lady Tremaine in Cinderella (1950).

4. Jadis The White Witch - "The Chronicles of Narnia"

Jadis is the main antagonist of The Magician's Nephew and of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in C.S. Lewis's series, The Chronicles of Narnia. She is commonly referred to as the White Witch in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, as she is the Witch who froze Narnia in the Hundred Years Winter. Some recent editions of the books include brief notes, added by later editors, that describe the cast of characters. As Lewis scholar Peter Schakel points out, the description there of Jadis and the Queen of Underland (the main antagonist of The Silver Chair) "states incorrectly that the Queen of Underland is an embodiment of Jadis". Beyond characterising the two as "Northern Witches", Lewis's text does not connect them.

"By Fairest Blood It Was Done And Only By Fairest Blood Can It Be Undone"

Bellatrix Escapes From Azkaban

2. Bellatrix Lestrange - "Harry Potter Movies"

Arguably Lord Voldemort's most loyal and pure evil Death Eater, Bellatrix Lestrange is one of the main antagonists of the Harry Potter series. She is pure evil, and believes in a pure blooded wizarding race, much like her master. She's married to Rhodolphus Lestrange, who along with his brother Rabastan, is a Death Eater. Despite this, she has been in love with Lord Voldemort, only marrying Rodolphus so that she remains loyal to the pureblood way. Sickeningly sarcastic and sadistic, she shows no remorse for anything that she does, even killing fellow pureblood and cousin Sirius Black. She finds torturing her victims before killing to be the most satisfying. She is also the sister of Andromeda Tonks and Narcissa Malfoy, making her the aunt of Nymphadora Tonks and Draco Malfoy. Bellatrix Lestrange is also one of the Death Eaters who participated in the torture of Frank and Alice Longbottom, Neville Longbottom's parents, by used of the Cruciatus Curse. She is called Bella, short for Bellatrix, by Voldemort, the Death Eaters, and people who know her well.

1. The Wicked Witch of the West  - "The Wizard of Oz"

The Wicked Witch of the West is a fictional character and the most significant antagonist in L. Frank Baum's children's book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900). Despite being such an iconic figure in literature, in Baum's subsequent Oz books, it is the evil Nome King from a neighboring kingdom who is the principal villain; the Wicked Witch of the West is rarely even referred to again after her death in the first Oz book.

The witch's most popular depiction was in the classic 1939 Hollywood movie based loosely on Baum's book, where she was portrayed by actress Margaret Hamilton. Hamilton's characterization introduced bright green skin to the witch's appearance and this has been continued in later literary and dramatic representations, including Gregory Maguire's adult revisionist Oz novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West (1995), and its highly successful Broadway musical stage adaptation Wicked (2003), Walt Disney's prequel film Oz the Great and Powerful (2013), and the television series Once Upon a Time (2014).
